Bug#636822: ITP: gtimer -- GTK-based X11 task timer

  Version : 2.0.0

  Description : GTK-based X11 task timer

A graphical program that tracks how your time is spent. Maintains a
simple list of tasks, each of which can belong to a project, and allows
you to track time in each. Multiple clocks can run simultaneously,
annotations can be added to a day's time, and reports can be generated
in either HTML or text. If GTimer detects that you're idle, you are
given the option of subtracting off the time you spent idle when you
 return.
 .
Compared to other time tracking applications, GTimer is graphical without
depending on a desktop environment and aims for simplicity rather than
attempting to be a full-fledged project tracking and billing application.

Sure, it is so.
I've understood the point: the goal is to integrate those symbols in
liboss-salsa, I think it's feasible and some work on both
libdssialsacompat and liboss-salsa-dev is needed in order to get it
achieved:

 - asoundef.h might be removed from libdssisalsacompat-dev and
replaced by a symlink to the header provided by libasound2-dev
 - liboss-salsa-dev's seq_midi_event.h should point to
libdssialsacompat-dev's one
 - seq_event.h needs little more investigation, the copy provided by
libdssisalsacompat-dev may need to be refresh'd
 - ...

This is just to set a beginning point, but I'm not an experienced
kfreebsd porter, so any help is appreciated :)

Well there is nothing specific to kfreebsd here, you can develop and
test it all on a Linux box.

Test::Routine is a very simple framework for writing your tests as composable
units of assertion. In other words: roles.

[...lots of blast libs...]

Like others have pointed out, this is not a useful benchmark.
You're basicly testing the startup time of your application. When
you start an applications that dynamic linker has to resolv
symbols and relocations. This takes time which for the static
version was done at link time. Having more libraries it needs to
check for the symbol means it will take longer.

What can help is that you reduce the total amount of symbols that
it needs to check be only exporting the symbols you need from the
shared libraries. There are various methods for that.

The basic 3 methods I know:
- Making things as much as possible static.
- Using symbol visibility: tell gcc which symbols should be visible.
- Using a linker map to only export those that should be visible.

That status bar was removed in Firefox 4.0. While some of the status bar items
did find new homes, some did not, and you might not like where they ended up.
There were also some nice innovations during the development of Firefox 4.0,
such as progress/links/status in the location bar, which unfortunately didn't
make it to the final release.

Status-4-Evar aims to bring back (some of) the old status bar items, give you
more control over the built-in Firefox features, and provide new alternatives.

On the subject of yada: since your email, bug #334164 has been
upgraded to RC, yada itself has been orphaned, and I have proposed its
removal to debian-qa.

So if anyone fancies adopting it and arguing in favour of keeping it,

I don't see any reason.

I can't answer that. I was simply pointing out that the information is
already out there, so hiding it doesn't really accomplish much.

Exporter::Easy makes using Exporter easy. In it's simplest case it allows you
to drop the boilerplate code that comes with using Exporter. In more
complicated situations where you use tags to build lists and more tags, it
will set @EXPORT, @EXPORT_OK, @EXPORT_FAIL and %EXPORT_TAGS in the current
package, add Exporter to that package's @ISA and do a use vars on all the
variables mentioned. The rest is handled as normal by Exporter.

ok i spoke to phil hands, and asked his advice: apparently there's
something called "Breaks:" which would do the job.
  http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html#s-breaks

this fulfils the requirements, namely that if you haven't got the
package installed, it's irrelevant, but if you have, then the version
must, clearly, be greater than N in order to work.

thus, it would appear to be the case that the *older* libdevmapper
library must have "Breaks: (< linux-image-2.6.39)" and this will force
the installation of the newer libdevmapper *before* going ahead with
the installation of linux-image-2.6.39.

why must that be the case? very simple: if libdevmapper happens to
be upgraded at the same time, and happens to get unpacked *after*
initramfs-tools gets triggered [in the postinst?], then you have the
nasty situation where the new (correct) library is correctly
installed... but it was the *older* libdevmapper that was dropped into
the initrd at the time of the 2.6.39 kernel upgrade. and that's known
to be "Bad (tm)".

the other nice thing about "Breaks:" is that it's the opposite of
"Conflicts:" i.e. if you were to use "Conflicts:" it would have to go
into the linux-image-2.6.39 package, and that would be just a bit...
weird.

@begin ot
[plus, ben has completely ignored that he's been terribly insulting
and believes that my responses pointing this out are themselves in
fact insulting, and that all this ego insultingness including saying
"you are a complete liar, your bugreport *must* be worthless" is
something that justifies completely ignoring any further input, which
is, itself insulting to say the least. thus, any further input from
ben cannot be expected, and thus the way to fix the issue is to go
from the "other end" i.e. fix the issue using "Breaks:". *sigh*. i
really must actually try acting like the egofuckingmaniac that people
believe i am, one of these days. perhaps if i pointed out more often
that peoples' behaviour is very insulting rather than assuming that
they know that, things would go a bit smoother. trouble is that i
just don't notice the things that other people would, ordinarily, be
completely outraged by, consequently get blamed rather a lot for being
pathologically honest and blunt. oh well let's stop here, eh?]
@end ot

also it's not entirely clear (whereas "Breaks:" definitely is) that
the use of "Conflicts:" would trigger a complete upgrade of
libdevmapper before proceeding with the installation of the 2.6.39
kernel (or more to the point, proceeding with the initrd recreation).

perhaps somebody with a bit more experience of how "Breaks:" and
"Conflicts:" work would like to comment, thus ensuring that this issue
is resolved in the best possible way for the benefit of the debian
free software community? (*)

l.

(* i.e. ignoring that the report is coming from someone whom many
debian developers feel is an "aggravating little shit who needs taking
down a peg or two by deliberately seeing the absolute worst in
whatever they write in order to *deliberately* create situations where
afore-mentioned little shit can be proven wrong har har", because this
particular aggravating little shit can in fact take care of his own
system, whereas there are many debian users who, when presented with
this same issue would find themselves completely lost)

Unofficial Debian Monthly Testing Snapshot Release (version 2011.08)

2011-08-06 Thread Michael Gilbert
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Hi all,

I am pleased to announce the unofficial Debian monthly testing snapshot
release for August 2011 (version 2011.08). This release is currently
available in two flavors (i386 and amd64) as mini iso images downloadable
from:

http://alioth.debian.org/~gilbert-guest/snapshots/2011.08/debian-testing-snapshot-2011.08-i386-mini.iso
sha512sum:
bf4d0ae84fd9d0817bb647f8f0d727f84b317fac7b9d47b8a768256b1c3700252617f995ddebad6a4806f17e518fc515a2a53d04165439639df8b3d9de55578f
http://alioth.debian.org/~gilbert-guest/snapshots/2011.08/debian-testing-snapshot-2011.08-amd64-mini.iso
sha512sum:
33eef14ad7b2be8341774848f7ddb28a295528905613ee5c506b69ab9974de9ad29700a19d5fa22d0bfaae7779b96197e47f7a257b789d1ca027bcfd47667213

These files can be written to CD or DVD media or directly to a USB
stick. Instructions for USB installation can be found here:
http://www.debian.org/releases/squeeze/i386/ch04s03.html.en

IMPORTANT: There will be no inherent security support for these
snapshot releases. The images do automatically set up testing-security
as an apt source during installation, so any DTSA's (Debian Testing
Security Advisories) will be automatically applied to snapshot
installations. However, the security team does not issue many updates
this way anymore (optioning instead to primarily use unstable uploads
as a means to fix testing). This is an area that could potentially be
improved if there are volunteers interested in this problem. For more
information on current testing security processes, see:
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/secure-testing/doc/narrative_introduction

Ideally for those wishing to have a mostly security supported system,
the snapshot media will simply be a reliable stepping stone for
installation followed by an upgrade to testing proper, which does
receive quasi-official support from the security team (i.e. uploads to
unstable that transition to testing).

To upgrade from a previous snapshot, change the existing snapshot entries
in your /etc/apt/sources.list to:

deb http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20110430T092551Z wheezy main
deb-src http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20110430T092551Z wheezy main

Note that upgradability of individual packages isn't necessarily
guaranteed.

Note that this is an unofficial project since it does not come with the
backing or support from Debian as a team, but hopefully that will
change in the future as the concept is proven out.

Anyway, enjoy! And send feedback to cut-t...@lists.alioth.debian.org.

Best wishes,
Mike Gilbert

Correction, apt sources for this version are:

deb http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20110727T212503Z wheezy main
deb-src http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20110727T212503Z wheezy main

Best wishes,
Mike
