Unfortunately, Debian is a volunteer organization, not a charity, so
we can't donate money to you. Kindly do not mail this list unless you
want to participate in technical discussions related to Debian
development.

Thank you.

Description : Library for creating GUIs for games and 3D applications

MyGUI is a library for creating Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs)
for games and 3D applications.
The main goals of mygui are: speed, flexibility and ease of use.

The library uses its own batching subsystem which combines geometry.
It is also possible to extend it with custom render systems
or new subsystems.

The library supports plugins that allows to create dynamically loaded
custom controls or subsystems. Most subsystems are expandable with plugins
without the need to touch the core code. All resources and settings are
described in XML files. It is possible to load resources like fonts,
cursors, images, skins, etc. Forms (layouts) via dynamically
by using XML files.

The user interface is easy to use and uses delegates (Signals and slots)
for easy to use event handling.

#573127 sphinxsearch should use prefix for utlilities

2010-04-21 Thread Radu Spineanu

Hi.

sphinxsearch is a package that provides binaries like searchd, indexer, etc.

I received bug report #573127 which has the correct intention behind it
that the binaries should be prefixed.

The problem I am seeing is that any change like this would affect
modules, plugins, and a lot of programs that interact with SphinxSearch.
My particular use case is in Rails where searchd is a hardcoded value in
plugins that interact with the daemon.

What I want to do is mark the bug as wontfix and Conflicts mongosearch-*.

But I am looking for second opinions. What do you think?

Thanks,
R.

P.S. Could you please CC me. -devel is too much traffic for me.

  Upstream Author : Tomasz Kaźmierczak
* URL : http://cytadela.sf.net/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C++
Description : old-school first person shooter

Cytadela is a conversion of an old Amiga first person shooter. The
original was created in mid 1990's by Virtual Design, and released
firstly in Poland and then in other countries.

This is a single player game in which the player fights against AI
enemies. The goal of the game is to find six bomb parts with which
the Citadel has to be blown up. To achieve it, the player not only
has to defend himsefl against the enemies, but (s)he also has to
solve many riddles, such as switching apropriate buttons in order to
open some door, move some walls, etc.

As a conversion, this project tries to be as similar to the original
as possible and therefore there won't be any significant changes,
only some gameplay improvements are possible.

This version is fully playable and beatable, but the introduction and
ending sequences are not developed yet (they are planned for v1.0).

I think now there are few programs which have dependencies
on sphinxsearch. On new program we can file bugreports :)
I think that the patch of Rails will be simple.

RS> What I want to do is mark the bug as wontfix and Conflicts mongosearch-*.

I think it would be wrong idea. User would want install both packages.
Also, next time we will be able to find out other searchd/indexer
programs and will be forced to add another conflicts. I think that
this problem should be resolved now, when we have few users and few
dependencies.

RS> But I am looking for second opinions. What do you think?

Another way: using prefixes in deb-package and add alternative for
name searchd/indexer/etc. But this case You should file a bugreport
for mnogosearch-* to to the same.

Upstream should have used much less generic binary names in the first
place. Please co-ordinate with sphinxsearch upstream to transition to
new names. Since there are no reverse-dependencies in Debian (rails
doesn't mention it), the transition would probably not take very long.

Both conflicts and alternatives are the wrong approach IMO.
