There's DNS64 and BEHAVE, probably with some free implementation. Of
course, there are hardly any users because the entire IPv6 user base
is rather small, and we're talking about a renegade faction of that.

IOS has NAT-PT support, IIRC. It's also patent-encumbered.

Bug#563242: ITP: gprbuild-4.4 -- a multi-language extensible build tool

2010-01-01 Thread Stephen Leake
Package: wnpp
version: 1.0
Severity: wishlist
Upstream Author : AdaCore (rep...@adacore.com)
URL : http://libre.adacore.com/libre/
License : GPL
Programming Lang: Ada
Description : a multi-language extensible build tool

A set of tools for processing GNAT project files. gprbuild runs tools
on the specified source files; gprclean removes the corresponding
built files; gprconfig configures both tools. It is highly
configurable; the default configuration supports compiling Ada,
Assembler, C, C++, and Fortran sources.
 .
This package contains the executables gprbuild, gprclean, gprconfig.

The package name includes "-4.4" because it is tightly tied to gnat;
gnat is currently at version 4.4. Future releases of gprbuild will
coincide with future releases of gnat.

It might make sense to have the "gnat" meta-package install gprbuild
as well (the AdaCore distributions of the GNAT toolset do this).
However, gprbuild can be used without gnat.

I wouldn't call them renegade, to be honest. I wondered back then how
to achieve an IPv6-only network to check applications for compatibility,
but missed the option to still connect to IPv4 hosts without the use
of proxies. I don't care about the additional NAT layer because I'm
NATed anyway. Thanks for those pointers, although the implementations
seem to be missing (not for Windows but for others as it seems).

Oh ok, I just saw documents deprecating NAT-PT altogether, but I didn't
know the latter.

Thanks a lot,

IIUC, the problem is with the ordering of the postinst scripts. "Depends"
means that the other package has to be in the configured state before the
depending package's postinst script can be run, but in many cases the
depending package has no postinst script or the dependency doesn't apply to
the postinst script but merely to the application as such after installation.

Would a new package relationship, say "Post-Depends", be helpful?

to work by using the radeon instead of the radeonhd

This is not only me. "hostname -f" uses the same definition.

There's also the open problem of what "canonical name" means under
Debian / Linux. Some software also assumes the unicity of the FQDN
(under the "hostname -f" definition), and even the nodename (e.g.
that's procmail when storing mail in a Maildir mailbox).

I agree, and I always make sure /etc/hostname is the FQDN or something
close to it on machines I run.

We do the same at the university where I work, on all Unix versions
that are capable of storing the long names (had some problems with
older HP-UX, not sure we have any Unix versions left which refused

Debian OpenSSH commit access

2010-01-01 Thread Colin Watson
Various folks have asked me in the past about the possibility of helping
out with Debian OpenSSH packaging. Until now I've always had to
regretfully put them off as I had no way to offer them commit access,
since I was using a CVS repository on a private host for historical
reasons.

I've now migrated all my CVS history to a true distributed VCS branch
based off an import of upstream's CVS repository. As far as I can tell,
I've lost none of anyone's history in the process, which I'm quite proud
of given the craziness that was going on with vendor branches. :-)
Instructions on dealing with the new repository are here:

http://bzr.debian.org/loggerhead/pkg-ssh/openssh/trunk/annotate/head:/debian/README.source

I'd now like to get back in touch with those people who offered help and
take them up on their offer. Unfortunately, without computer assistance,
I have a memory like a thing with holes in, and a number of these
contacts were at Debian conferences and the like. If you have spoken
with me in the past about helping out with OpenSSH and you're still
interested, could you please contact me privately using this e-mail
address? I'd like to explore the possibility of getting a few more
people involved in co-maintenance of this vital package.

If you haven't spoken with me in the past about this but are
nevertheless interested, then tasks that badly need attention are
roughly what you might expect, given that the most immediate problem is
the fact that the bug list is so large it tends to obscure urgent items:

  * Go through the bug list looking for upstreamable bugs, especially
those with patches that look reasonable, forward them to upstream
Bugzilla, and mark the Debian bugs as forwarded.

  * Look for bugs that have already been fixed (preferably if you can
trace the fix to an individual commit, rather than just "I can't
reproduce this any more" which might just mean that your
circumstances differ from the reporter's) and close them.

  * Find reasonably accessible bugs, produce patches, and send them
upstream.

For good measure, I've also added PuTTY to the pkg-ssh repository. If
any other maintainers of SSH implementations in Debian are interested in
joining this project, please get in touch.

Thanks,
