It needs quite some work to get reverse dependencies handled and getting
it built on all architectures. Both of which are the main responsability
of the kernel team...

There are no plans to force anything in like some propose in such
situations as there is no clear plan of the kernel team to get the
remaining issues solved soon after it would be forced in.

So, could we get some input from the kernel team on this topic, then?

Are you guys prioritizing work to get a new kernel in testing or work
to get yet another upstream release in unstable?

(from the above sentence and the discussion we had during the D-I team
meeting, you probably understand where is my own preference going)

I'm sorry if I'm not an expert, but you can try with "*DEBIAN_FRONTEND=text*"
boot parameter, to install using the serial port.

The question is: how do you type this with a PC that has no screen or
keyboard, just a USB plug?

debian-hppa port support

2009-07-11 Thread Carlos O'Donell
Debian,

If you have any problems building a debian package for hppa, please
contact me on debian-hppa.

As a porter I've setup a debian buildd on my local hppa machine for
reproducing build problems.

Please don't hesitate to email debian-hppa.

Known issues:
* The ruby1.9 build problem still exists on hppa until we switch to
nptl (to support the signal semantics expected by ruby) or disable the
particular test to allow the build to complete.
* glibc does not yet support nptl. glibc patches to enable nptl for
hppa are complete, but usability testing is still in progress to iron
out the remaining bugs.

Note: I'm only subscribed to debian-hppa, please CC me or debian-hppa.

Cheers,
Carlos O'Donell

it is mostly done, beside the strange cpio missing build dep,
that funnily surfaced now on i686. fixed in latest repo and
scheduled for upload latest on this upcoming week.

without force hints linux-2.6 goes nowhere.

what are the remaining issues that you are concerned about?

Sorry, I don't understood the question.

The PC have a RJ-45 connector? Can be that a "net plu"g is a serial console
too.
I have installed Debian in SunFire V120 (Sparc maquine with RJ-45 connector
"serial console") through hyperterminal with the standard Debian
installation CD

A possible alternate way can be a preseed installation (a preconfigured
file)

If you mean this in general then you are misinformed. If you mean atm,
then you know the answer to your following question.

The ones that prevent linux-2.6 from migrating once it would be unblocked.

border size depending on the window title or name, in order to have better
integration of GTK based windows in the decoration style, add a size-grip
handle in the bottom-right corner of windows. This is particularly useful
when the no-border option is selected.

Like FTBFS of linux-modules-extra-2.6 on 3 architectures I guess? That
seemed to me like a valid reason not to want to migrate .29 to testing.

even code references in a simple and consistent way.
 .
When a method is invoked on something which is not a blessed object reference,
autobox looks for the method in a package whose name corresponds to the ref()
type of the value. This design means extending the default functionality for
new methods on a type-by-type basis is very simple.
