2008-09-03 Thread Franklin PIAT
Hello,

Regarding the wiki page NewInLenny[1] and the possibility to reuse it's
content in the Release Notes, I'm wondering what's the actual license
that apply to the R.N ?

We would have two option to migrate the wiki page license :
1. Ask each contributor to re-license his contribution under license X.
2. Use Vincent's idea, described below, and use
[Include(NewInLenny-oldlicense)] to include the old page in the new
one (so it remains visible). and content can be move from one page
to the other by it's author

I am quite interested in the first scheme, as it would be a trial for we
can do for the whole wiki.

We are currently asking all contributors to agree to GPL2
(unfortunately without the famous "or later" a.k.a. GPL2+).

If somebody does not answer in a given time frame or does not
agree, you still have to remove their contribution.

Gentlemen, the top Info pages of different packages wildly differ:
e.g.
$ info m4
has a nice header "GNU m4"
but
$ info gawk
has a lower level header 'General introduction', while
$ info yorick
has a menu without a header, while
$ info emacs
says "the emacs editor", even better than "GNU m4" which doesn't
mention if it is an editor or a language, etc.

Therefore folks should make top Info nodes with proper headers.
How about a debian Info pages policy.

Hi,

(this bug is about "top Info pages of different packages wildly differ".)

"How 'bout just filing wishlist bugs with patches?" sounds like a reasonable
approach to me, thus closing this meta bugreport. Also _not_ reassigning to
debian-policy, as there is no consensus to demand this and policy shall
describe current best practice, which obviously doesnt exist here.

Hi,

I read in this bugreport that it would be a good idea to use debtags to
indicate whether a package installs remotely accessable services or not. (The
other modifications suggested in this bugreport are mostly prohibited by
policy)

Does such a tag exist? If so, please close this bugreport, if not, please
create one :-)

Hey,

Has anyone looked at packaging Chromium for Debian yet?

Looks like a 3-clause BSD, was going to check out the code and scour it for
potential DFSG issues but my downlink was slow.

I notice that as of yesterday evening, no one had filed an ITP.

I've downloaded it and started to play with the code. It doesn't work

It sais: I compiled it here nicely in Debian. I had only to change a
little bit in the source of __tt_main_proc.c, which made a native call
to Windows' systray.

I would advise anyone interested in packaging Chromium to not consider
it before Lenny release and help fixing the annoying RC bugs in
iceweasel/xulrunner instead.

Ah yes, I was sure I had seen something about it working...

When you start an X-server, it appears to add bad info to last -d -i
tested with 2 different boxes, it adds a line like the following
scot pts/2192.168.1.5 Tue Mar 13 20.19 still logged in
scot :0 148.33.21.64 Tue Mar 13 20.10 still logged in
reboot system boot 0.0.0.0 Tue Mar 13 20.08

if you stop X running the line does not display the 148.33.21.64
info, i even tested this with no internet connection to the box, that IP
Address if it is an IP Address is in America, I am in the uk

hope this helps

Configuring http/ftp proxies for a host is too complicated. There are too many
places where the administrator (or user) needs to enter the proxy configuration.
At system install time, you are prompted for the proxy settings, but these
settings appear to only be used by apt. It would be nice if there were a
global proxy configuration, which every package would use.

Incidentally, here is a list of the packages that had to be configured by hand:
wget-ssl
reportbug
konqueror
mozilla-browser

Hi,

global proxy configuration works via the http_proxy variable works with most
programs, if not, please file seperate bugs against those packages.

Without more information, I would think the "Waited, for gzip but it wasn't
there" message meant that gzip wasn't installed.

"apt-get install gzip" should have fixed that, should it not?

The license of the wiki page NewInLenny have been changed to GPL2.

All contributors to this page are invited to relicense their
contribution, by adding their name at the bottom of the page.
