Is there something similar to packages.gentoo.org for Debian?

2007-12-13 Thread Cyril Jaquier

Hi all,

I'm new to Debian and really like it. I'm running unstable/experimental
as I really like having the most recent version of packages.

I'm still using Gentoo on my servers and I like
http://packages.gentoo.org/arch/amd64 a lot. It shows you new or updated
packages for a given arch (or for all of them if you want).

I haven't found anything similar for Debian.
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/newpkg seems to show just new
packages but not the update. I haven't found anything on
http://ftp-master.debian.org/ too :(

So... Is there something similar to packages.gentoo.org for Debian?

Thanks,

Cyril Jaquier

P.S. Please, CC me as I'm not subscribed to the mailing-list.

All changes (accepted packages) are reported on the debian-change
mailing list. If you don't like the mail interface, you can use some web
archive (gmane.org, groups.google.com... rss and atom feeds are
available on
http://groups.google.com/group/linux.debian.changes.devel/feeds).

I don't know if there is another web interface to this information,
maybe the PTS (packages.qa.debian.org) has something.

Cheers,

Yes, it is in the new queue as lua-lpeg, and the package description
contains LPeg too. Binary packages will be liblua5.1-lpeg0 and
liblua5.1-lpeg-dev and the lua module will be loadable with

  require "lpeg"

If you are inpatient, or want to test it before it passes the new queue,
you can use the following svn repository:

  svn co svn://svn.debian.org/pkg-lua/packages/lua-lpeg

Cheers.

 one produces a flat spectrum (impulses) and the second generates a
 sawtooth waveform. The third one (new in 0.3.0), provides a variable

Intend to hijack funkload

2007-12-13 Thread toni
Hi,

funkload now waits for being packaged for well over a year and a half.
I have an urgent need for this package, and am almost done with
packaging. I tried to contact Jose, who said he'd package it in April,
a few days ago, with no response so far.

If there's no good objection to doing this, I'm going to move forward
and upload a funkload package and a tcpwatch package ("required" by
funkload) today or tomorrow.

Sorry for giving only short notice, and *if* someone really thinks
they'll do a much better job on it, I'll consider handing it over, no
problem.

Best,

The word you were looking for was impatient. Many people do
pronounce it a bit more like inpatient, but impatient is the
correct pronounciation.

Fortunately, your original version was fully understandable,
as it looked to be a simple typo.

Portability links in library and development packages?

2007-12-13 Thread Jens Peter Secher
Let us say I have packages libfoo++1 and libfoo++-dev which make standard files

/usr/lib/libfoo++.so.1.0.0
/usr/lib/libfoo++.so.1 -> libfoo++.so.1.0.0

and

/usr/lib/libfoo++.a
/usr/lib/libfoo++.la
/usr/lib/libfoo++.so --> libfoo++.so.1.0.0
/usr/include/foo++/

Now, in some other distributions, these files are called foopp instead
of foo++, and so to aid portability of client code, I put in the
additional following links.

/usr/lib/libfoopp.so.1 -> libfoo++.so.1

and

/usr/lib/libfoopp.a --> libfoo++.a
/usr/lib/libfoopp.la --> libfoo++.a
/usr/lib/libfoopp.so --> libfoo++.so
/usr/include/foopp --> foo++

I have a funny feeling that such links could break something, but I
cannot find a case where it actually does. Can any of you?
