Bug#465410: kuake: should this package be removed?
Package: kuake Version: 0.3-5.2 Severity: serious User: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Usertags: proposed-removal Hi, Your package came up as a possible candidate for removal from Debian, because: * It is dead upstream and its functionality has been superseeded by yakuake: http://packages.debian.org/sid/yakuake and it has been already ported to KDE 4. * Package seems unmaintained: - latest maintainer upload was long time ago and last 2 uploads were NMU. - several bugs in the BTS without maintainer's answer. If you agree, sending the following commands to [EMAIL PROTECTED] should do it (after replacing nn with this bug's number): severity nn normal reassign nn ftp.debian.org retitle nn RM: -- RoM; thanks For more information, see http://wiki.debian.org/ftpmaster_Removals http://ftp-master.debian.org/removals.txt If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please just close this bug, preferably in an upload also fixing the other issues. Bug#465422: munin: runs wild and overwrites random files on the system
Package: munin Version: 1.2.5-1 Severity: critical Tags: security Justification: causes serious data loss Munin recently ran amok on my backup/log-server. It dumped its RRD files on top of random files in the root-filesystem. Fortunately mostly in /usr/share/doc/ I have experienced bug #310915 as well as the occational excessive cpu-usage. None of these seemed to be worse than annoyances though. Today however, it clobbered /usr/share/backuppc/lib/BackupPC/Lib.pm which obviously broke my backups. All clobbered files end up with their original name but owner/group as munin/munin. It even replaced /usr/share/doc/libneon25/ (a directory) with an RRD-file of the same name but munin/munin as owner/group. Bug#464302: libmodule-load-conditional-perl: FTBFS: perl-modules: non-matching version installed (5.8.8-12 ! >> 5.10)

I don't think there's a problem even with stable. The distribution specifies version.pm >= 0.69, but judging by t/02_Parse_Version.t and http://www.xray.mpe.mpg.de/mailing-lists/perl5-porters/2007-01/msg00805.html the problem is only with pureperl installations of version.pm, while we have an XS one. Indeed, both the test suite and the apparently problematic $ perl -Mversion -le'qv(1)+0' invocation work on Etch libversion-perl 0.6701-1. Conclusion: as perl-modules Build-Essential:yes, an unversioned *build*-dependency on just libversion-perl should work "everywhere". I'm not quite as sure about the runtime dependency, but it seems that Depends: perl (>= 5.6.0-16), libversion-perl works at least in 'apt-get install libsmart-comments-perl', as it drags perl-modules with it in the 5.10 case. Bug#465530: [Pkg-nagios-devel] Bug#465530: nagios-plugins 1.4-6sarge1 lacks check_procs
hi security peeps, can someone check the build logs for why the check_procs plugin wasn't built? i know there's some sketchy goings on in the configure script regarding determining "which ps do we use" and maybe "is /proc mounted", but afaik the build dependencies are correct. also, the amd64 sarge version (and also the etch versions) all seem to have the plugin in question, in case that's helpful. sean On Wednesday 13 February 2008 12:55:16 am Peter Palfrader wrote: > Package: nagios-plugins > Version: 1.4-6sarge1 > Severity: grave > > check_procs disappeared in the 1.4-6sarge1 security update > > nikki:~# dpkg -l nagios-plugins | grep '^ii' && dpkg -L nagios-plugins | > grep check_proc ii nagios-plugins 1.4-6 Plugins for the nagios > network monitoring an /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_procs > nikki:~# > > [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -l nagios-plugins | grep '^ii' && dpkg -L > nagios-plugins | grep check_proc ii nagios-plugins 1.4-6sarge1Plugins > for the nagios network monitoring an [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ > > > > ___ > Pkg-nagios-devel mailing list > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-nagios-devel signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

None of the CVEs you mention in your subject have anything to do with the nvidia graphics modules. > I tested the current exploits published on securityfocus and all get me > a root shell from non privileged account. I would be glad if you can > patch this package. The problems described in the CVEs you mentioned were both fixed in DSA 1494 (http://www.debian.org/security/2008/dsa-1494) To clarify, since I suspect that the source of your confusion is the package name, nvidia-kernel-2.6.18-5-486 doesn't actually contain a kernel at all. Since the vulnerabilities you mention were kernel vulnerabilities, they can't possibly be present in nvidia-kernel-2.6.18-5-486. The nvidia-kernel-* packages contain a module for your kernel, not an actual kernel. You need to install linux-image-2.6.18-6-486 and reboot. noah signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Whether the kernel > supports inotify should be checked at runtime, not build time. Well, this makes sense. I could fix this for the build time. Does mediatomb already check for inotify during runtime? As far as fixing this for build time, I'm guessing the inotify-tools has this check only to serve the purpose of seeing if the linux inotify headers work, and if not, just drop back to it's own implementation. For mediatomb, we should just be worried about the presence and usability of sys/inotify.h. If it turns out there's a problem with the inotify headers, then it should be reported against the linux packages. -- Regards, Andres

I am still using the old versions. Are you using an IM? Yes, pidgin, and recently kopete. Should I try closing these before logging out? I meant an Input Method or module, such as SCIM or a XIM. Not deliberately, as in "I didn't installed and enabled input methods, or maybe, if I did, I did without knowing, via some intermediate thing". I will double check when I get home, since scim sounds familiar. I suppose the simplest method of disabling scim, if any, is to remove the homonym package. I didn't have it installed. But what about XIM? How do I check if have it installed/enabled? How do I disable it? Also nothing to indicate I would have this either (I guess this is related to "libgtk2.0-0: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodules/im-xim.so"). I am > retitling/reassigning back to the Xserver now that ATI driver issues are > clarified. Aldemir, We are trying to make sure that Xserver 1.4 is really the problem here. So we want to know whether Xserver 1.3 works when a RandR 1.2 (such as ATI) and another one (such as MGA) are used at the same time. I just build a very recent snapshot of the ATI driver for testing/Lenny: http://people.debian.org/~bgoglin/rebuilds/ati-6.7.198-Xserver1.3/ Could you test it (after downgrading to xserver-xorg-core 1.3 from testing if necessary) and see whether it works with the MGA driver enabled at the same time? You'll just need a config with both drivers, probably very similar to what you had at the beginning of this bug report. You might need to try with and without some advanced config such as Screen 0 "Screen 1" 0 0 Screen 1 "Screen 2" RightOf "Screen 1" in the ServerLayout section. thanks in advance, Brice __ Sent from Yahoo! Bug#465491: mdadm use wrong metadata version as default
Package: mdadm Version: 2.6.4-1 Severity: critical Justification: breaks lilo boot from raid1 Lilo can only boot from Raid1 devices with raid 0.9 metadata. Not with raid 1.x. The manpage from mdadm says: Options are: 0, 0.90, default Use the original 0.90 format superblock. This format limits arrays to 28 component devices and limits compo‐ nent devices of levels 1 and greater to 2 terabytes. 1, 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 Use the new version-1 format superblock. This has few restrictions. The different sub-versions store the superblock at different locations on the device, either at the end (for 1.0), at the start (for 1.1) or 4K from the start (for 1.2). but the mdadm from debian doesn't use 0.9 as default. That was my experience with my case of file syystem corruption. The first damage was quite specific. The first indication was that /var/lib/dpkg/available contained a lot of syslog data. The second, a few days later, was rather more serious, and I needed to restore from backup to recover my /var. Closing this bug report. PREFIX and DESTDIR. Maybe using the dh-make-perl > Module::Build templates is the way to go... Well, certainly that's all I have time for right now. :) But in the general case, yes, this seems to be an (upstream?) bug in Module::Build's MakeMaker emulation, and it would be desirable to get it fixed so that other folks who miss upstream swapping out build systems will still build working packages. I'll clone a copy of the bug to track in libmodule-build-perl. -- _ivan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#465422: munin: runs wild and overwrites random files on the system
There was indeed a filesystem corruption - however, fsck only found problems with the files munin had touched. There was no other indication that anything else had done anything wrong, misbehaved or otherwise was out of whack and I monitor this machine fairly closely. I agree that the filesystem corruption thing is probably the cause here but I'm still puzzled by the fact that munin was the only process that broke anything else. This machine also runs backuppc and does a nightly backup of ~70Gb worth of data. Munin did not run as root btw. I really don't have any other good ideas here - obviously I hope I can't/won't recreate the problem. - OM -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#393079: configurable-savedefault.diff updated for 0.97-30

Hi Andreas, I'm sorry that it has taken us so long to respond. Thank you for your persistence. About the patch: > +# should grub add "savedefault" to default boot options > + savedefault="true" does this mean savedefault is still set by default? Since in practice the default setup doesn't take advantage of it (we don't have "default saved"), I'd prefer to NOT use savedefault at all unless user chose to enable it. I assume setting savedefault="false" here archieves this? Please could you update this with the latest version in SVN [1] ? I'll check this in for next upload. Thank you. Bug#311843: clarifying the Description of debsig-verify
Hi, I suggest adding the following paragraph to the long description of debsig-verify in order to prevent zealous sysadmins from being mislead into installing it: Note that this package is useless with the current, official Debian infrastructure. In fact, installing it may break your package management system. Don't install it unless you know precisely what you are doing. In my opinion, it's only half of the story though. Bet regards, Thibaut. PGP.sig Description: Ceci est une signature électronique PGP

I should work out how to set up a local repository that pbuilder could use to fetch that dependency from. I pbuilder everything else to catch failures like this. Bug#464946: Possible fix
I dont know if this helps anyone or not, but I found building the package localy fixed the problem for me ie: cd /usr/local/src apt-get source -b k3b Install all the required dev packages (and no this by its self didn't fix things) then re run apt-get source -b k3b once its all built I just install the libk3b library hey presto no errors dpkg -i ../libk3b3_1.0.4-6_i386.deb This also fixed the same error in kcontrol fonts manager Regards Jon Westgate PS I'm running a hand crafted linux-2.6.24.2 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
