Dince findutils-4.2.3, find has had a -delete action which we can use to replace both of these. In the general case this is more secure because it's less exposed to race conditions, but that's not relevant here. More usefully for us, it avoids us relying on the existence of xargs, and it's neater. It's also more efficient but the difference would probably be difficult to measure. Lastly, it's less vulnerable to problems with very deep directory hierarchies (which both xargs and -exec would suffer from).
