/usr/X11R6/man/windex can be removed from the package. Cygwin apropos is using
the whatis database.

Menu entries 'Copying' and 'Change Log' under 'Help' are not functioning.
The corresponding files in /usr/X11R6/share/tcm-2.20/help are broken

ssh hangs

2003-12-01 Thread Ben Anderson
Hi,
I just want to do the minimal amount of configuration to get me going with
ssh. I know the server works because I've logged in from other linux boxes.

I am using connect.exe, which seems to be working ok.
This first problem I'm having is that it won't let me use protocol 2:
$ ssh -2 -vvv -i ./rsa_no_pass -F ./ssh_config -p 80 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
OpenSSH_3.7.1p2, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0.9.7c 30 Sep 2003
debug1: Reading configuration data ./ssh_config

debug2: ssh_connect: needpriv 0

24.123.149.75 80
debug3: Not a RSA1 key file ./rsa_no_pass.

so, fine I'll use protocol 1, but now it just hangs after asking for my
proxy password:

$ ssh -1 -vvv -i ./rsa1_no_pass -F ./ssh_config -p 80 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
OpenSSH_3.7.1p2, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0.9.7c 30 Sep 2003

debug1: Executing proxy command: exec connect.exe -H [EMAIL PROTECTED]:80

debug1: identity file ./rsa1_no_pass type 0

my ssh_config:

Host *
  ProxyCommand connect.exe -H [EMAIL PROTECTED]:80 %h %p
and yes, the ssh server is running on port 80.

Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Ben

Thanks for the patch. I'm sorry but it's not quite clear to me what
the second part of the patch is doing? Could you give a short explanation
why it returns at that point if sawSomething is 0?

Oh, btw., Chris is right. It would be nice if you could adhere to
the formatting rules of the surrounding source.

The README states that ssmtp is maintained by Matt Ryan
(matt PLOP debian SPLAT org). When searching for more information
I also found that ssmtp has a higher version number (2.60). The
differences between that ssmtp (See, e. g.,
ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/distfiles/ssmtp_2.60.3.tar.gz
and our older ssmtp are pretty big. The source itself is still
very small and it builds OOTB, though.

Are you interested in maintaining that new version? It seems to
address the multiple recipient problem already, AFAICT. It would
probably just need a Makefile tweak and the small patch from Enoch Wu,
which allows to send to a server listening on other ports than 25.

Problem VnC + SSh + Putty + Port Forwarding

2003-12-01 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I make an SSH Tunnel (from Win2k to Win2k) with:
- a port forwarding on my ZYXEL 201 ISDN router
- install of openssh server on my Win PC in in the lan of ISDN ROUTER (where i'll
install my VNCserver)
- configuration of putty (with ssh2 and a tunnel from 5900 to my 5905 port) on the
host where i'll install my VNCviewer

All my configurations work well, and i make an SSH tunnel for view a PC in the Lan of
my ISDN ROUTER. The system work well 1 or 2 times, but yesterday i had a problem.
I make an SSH-login on my machine, and the tunnel is up.
But when i'm connecting with my VNCviewer (localhost:5)
UltraVNC tell me:

Connection failed - Error reading Protocol Version

Possible causes:

- You've forgotten to select DSMPlugin and the Server uses a DSMPlugin // I'm not
using plugin
- Viewer and Server are not compatible // impossible!! they run well without the ssh
tunneling
- Bad connection // what?? why?

Thank you in advance for all help!!

From the little information you've provided, what you're doing sounds fine.
Like you, I know this works. I use Cygwin's ssh/sshd and it's port-
forwarding with VNC (Tight and "normal") all the time and it works fine
(I'm using it now to type this on my machine at home while I'm at work).
I don't use putty though. However, the cause of your problem is not obvious.
You'll need to debug it further. Sorry.

The FAQ I pointed you to states:

"Cygwin can be expected to run on all modern 32 bit versions of Windows,
 except Windows CE."

Also, the opening lines of cygwin.com's web page state:

"The Cygwin DLL works with all non-beta, non "release candidate", ix86
versions of Windows since Windows 95, with the exception of Windows CE."

Does that not answer your question?

RE: where is cygintl-1.dll?

2003-12-01 Thread Dipl.Phys. Andreas K

Hi!
I just now had the same problem that David T-G reported long ago.
My diagnosis:
 Somehow Harold had installed "libintl1",
but David hadn't, cause he'd used the Default settings.

The symptom:
cygintl-1.dll was missing when cygwin installed from a local directory.
(in the last step, "PostInstallLast",
a popup "dll missing" appeared several times).
As an effect, cygwin just didn't work properly (e.g. didn't find most programs).

What did I do (wrong)?
a) download to local directory (default) from uni-kl.de
b) install from local directory (default)

As this is called "default", there can't be much wrong with it, can it?

Your email messages actually helped me to single out the problem:
libintl2 IS actually downloaded & installed properly,
but libintl1 is NOT. And that's the problem.

I manually added libintl1,
and manually "reinstalled" the "PostInstallLast" scripts.
Didn't work. p.

Then I totally erased every hint to cygwin from my disk
(the directory, and manually all registry entries)
 - WHY DON'T you have a normal Windows "total uninstall" feature?

... and started from scratch again.
But this time with the (manually added) libintl1
- and everything went fine.

So my suggestion:
Please repair the "default" settings to also include that
 cygintl-1.dll / libintl1

thanks a lot!

   Andreas

P.S.: I am not on the list, please include my eMail-adress in replies.

1. Consider deleting your ~/.ssh directory on your ssh client
computer and running the 'ssh-user-config' script that
is provided with OpenSSH (in /usr/bin). This should
allow you to do the minimal amount of configuration.
Then copy the public-key file that it creates in your
~/.ssh directory to the ssh server machine's ~/.ssh
   directory.

2. Or, describe the steps that you took to create your
   ssh client configuration.

readdir? problems in Postgres under Cygwin (leading to panic rename error)

2003-12-01 Thread Yurgis Baykshtis
We've been experiencing a problem with Postgres on Cygwin.
The problem has not been reported by Unix/Linux
But I just received a confirmation that we are not alone and other
pg-on-cygwin folks having the same problem too.

Basically, the ending result of the problem is the panic transaction log
rename failure possibly because the file to be renamed is missing.

Here is the part of the discussion thread with Tom Lane with more details
about the problem.
http://archives.postgresql.org/pgsql-hackers/2003-11/msg01358.php

So, the problem is not in rename() function itself but in the fact that the
file is missing.
According to Tom, this is either due to readdir() issue (possibly returning
files previously deleted) or the LWLock code is not working properly under
Cygwin (which is quite unlikely because nothing else in PG would work
basically). So, the most likely reason is in readdir() function that
according to Tom "misbehaves if there are concurrent insert,
rename or delete operations carried out in the same directory"

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've also tried to use strace tool, but strace hang rapidly.

For the last few weeks I've been experiencing the same, and the
offenders always seem to be either bash (not ash) or make. It is
important to note that I track cygwin's CVS head, so I had chalked it up
to the on-going signal work. I've found that running deep `make`s or
running the autotools in succession (such as in the case of triggering
the AM_MAINTAINER_MODE routines) often triggers this problem for me on
my Dual Athlon MP 2400+ Win2K box :-(. I've been extremely busy working
on other things, I just grumble, kill the deadlocked process and its
children, then restart the parent. Attempting to debug gdb/strace, as
you've discovered, is quite fruitless.

Cheers,

Do you guys have things like command substitution in your scripts ? I
talked about a similar problem in a previous mail (but got no answer),
it certainly involves some kind of race condition with forks and pipes.
Going back to a previous version of cygwin (1.3.something) fixes that
particular problem, but exposes a lot of other pthread races. For my
part I've been able to attach gdb to the dead processes, but apart from
dumping the stack(s) traces, I couldn't tell much.

Using setup.exe, look in the Devel category.
There is a "gcc-g77" package.

In general, to find a file that setup.exe supports,
use the Setup Package Search capability at
http://cygwin.com/packages/. This can be found

Thanks. But when did this change happen? My gcc-3.3.1-2.tar.bz2 file
still has a complete compiler suite. I just like it when setup breaks
previously working stuff. Was there an announcement?

This I did before I asked but was obviously not reading the result
carefully enough.

There was no breakage. Setup did nothing wrong.

Of course!

True enough. Glad to hear you at least thought of checking first. Maybe
all the hammering on this topic is paying off in some way. ;-)

Yes:

And, follow this thread through for one of several previous discussions:

There has been no productive action taken yet.

scripting sftp in a bash script

2003-12-01 Thread David Strozzi
Hi,

(I have a feeling this has been asked before, but I can't find it.)

I'm trying to use sftp within a bash script on cygwin (version 1.5.5 on
winXP pro). Ideally I'd like to use a 'here document' rather than using
an external batchfile, that is,

sftp /dev/stdin <
EOF

The problem is the /dev/stdin. This normally isn't necessary for 'here
documents,' and isn't with ftp. However, with sftp, for reasons I don't
understand, you need to add the /dev/stdin to use here documents. This
doesn't seem to work under cygwin.

Does anyone know how to produce this behavior?

Or, are there other ways to script/call sftp (or a _secure_ equivalent)?

I'm not subscribed to this list, so please cc my email address in your
reply.

Thanks very much.
