Re: Thanks!
Daniel Eriksson skrev den 2019-01-09 12:18: Hi all! I hope it is ok I send this here. I just wanted to say thanks for continuing the development of the Calligra suit. It's the best productivity suit I've ever used and I love how clear, feature-filled, smartly designed and coherent it is. It also looks excellent and fits right in with my KDE system. :) Thanks for putting all this work into it! I especially like that Words works so good as a DTP tool, but I also use Stage and several others a lot. Perhaps when I get more time in the future I can help out with doing Swedish translations or beta-testing. Regards, Daniel Tack så mycket! Any and all contributions are always wellcome.
Bumping qt version
Any reason not to require qt 5.9? We are at 5.3 atm.
Re: Bumping qt version
Ok, thanks all, we'll stay put on 5.3 fttb. Although I would be veeery suprised if it actually compiles, new stuff seems to just creep in. Anybody has a 5.3 system available? My understanding is they are working out the legal issues around the license changes ... technically the port is ready. I dont really understand the issue myself! Yes I noticed. 5.9 is much for conservative such as OS vendors / hardware platforms. Yet, I meant the pattern - it is not uncommon that people bump more than to 5.9. Doing so just because, say, "Qt 5.11 works on my desktop" is not optimal approach. On Tue, 15 Jan 2019 at 12:01, René J.V. Also (guess what) LTS distros seem refuse to upgrade without users doing extra steps. Amen to that! I'm very annoyed by the fact that KF5 Frameworks just moved to Qt 5.10, for no real good reason AFAICT. (As a result I find myself backporting the necessary bits of 5.10 to my Qt 5.9 build...) Re: Karbon improvements
JZA skrev den 2020-01-06 21:37: Hi I'm an avid kde user but I still keep some gtk apps like gimp (althought using krita more and more), another one is Inkscape and here is where maybe Karbon could improve to compete for further ease of use. Is a bit ironic that inkscape is one of the few gtk apps that make use of panes, something that is very well used in Calligra office apps. Yet in Karbon, the panes look a bit lacking on the UX. Also Karbon looks more like a Vision/UML editor than a publishing (Scribus), drawing (design) tool. It also lacks the use of plugins and effects, that could be a great space to grow and explore. Specially if there is a support for scripting languages such as JavaScript, Python and Ruby. (Maybe Go and Rust) Yes, scripting was disabled in 3.x due to upstream changes, but I have not looked into it lately so things might have improved. Hmmm, not much. Seems only javascript has been implemented. (In kde4 it could do python, ruby and more) Probably we should look to krita to see how they have dealt with it. Finally a redesign of the UX that prevent things like 'fat' widget groups that make the pane dimensions grow indefinetly. I'm new to the list so don't have much context for current topics being dealt currently but wonder if some of the issues are being discussed already. Since 3.1 I think only handling of multiple pages has been added, all ui and graphics functionality is as in 3.1. I'm not a graphics man so maybe Anthony (current maintainer) has further comments. Regards
