Shared memory X11 server for Mach

2003-11-16 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Regarding this task:

http://savannah.gnu.org/people/viewjob.php?group_id=3972&job_id=194

Does anyone have any idea on what this shared memory feature is for? What
exactly is the shared memory X11 server supposed to do, compared to an
ordinary X11 server, by being implemented in shared memory? Why is it
desirable?

Thanks for any clues. :)

I'm working on a full set of VESA VBE 3.0 features for Mach/Hurd, including
audio (VESA's VBE 3.0 also aims to standardise the interface to audio
devices), so this is very interesting to me.

James

PowerPC port

2003-11-16 Thread José Salaver Torres
I have been searching for a project about making a port for powerpc of
the gnu-Mach microkernel, the only thing I have found is a project for
making run the osf-mach into Hurd, that seems crap, because I have read
that osf-mach doesn't have a GPL license.

I have knowledge of C and POSIX, so what can I do to help in Hurd,
finishing the POSIX support (semaphores) seemed nice, but I can't
install the Hurd system, because I only have a mac.

bye.

PD: Will Hurd have a boot sound? Something like a south-african gnu
shout (muhuhhu!) when the soundcard is detected? XDDD
Like a war shout.
Macs have a boot sound too, but would be ridicolous compared with this ...
I think I'm getting mad...

What kind of apple do you have? If it can run mklinux it is possible
to run GNU/Hurd on it.

Jose,

Don't bother with Gnumach. Most work is now being done to port Hurd to
the L4 Microkernel (which is already ported to PPC bye the way). There
has been some work done toward PPC already but it has stalled
temporarily waiting for some of the other L4/Hurd servers to be completed.

Thank you,
