I got following errors if linking with the Gold linker from binutils-gdb master
checkout from 04.12.2015

/usr/bin/ld.gold: error: address of section '.bss' moves backward from 0x73163c
to 0x7315b8
/usr/bin/ld.gold: error: address 0x0 moves dot backwards in region ram
/usr/bin/ld.gold: error: address of section '.bss' moves backward from 0x726f2c
to 0x726ea8

On the slow Standard Gnu linker, it works correct.

If I use the official Version of binutils (2.25.1) I got much more Errors:

[Bug ld/17369] The PF_X bit is set on PT_PHDR segment

Hi Steven,

> If I pass --rosegment to gold this fixes this. Do you want a --rosegment

No - if this strangeness is not actually causing any problems then I do not see
any reason to fix it. Adding a new option adds the possibility of new bugs,
something that I would rather avoid unless it provides a real benefit.

Cheers
  Nick

[Bug binutils/19339] New: Several files still have old (and incorrect) FSF mailing address

2015-12-07 Thread tcallawa at redhat dot com
https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=19339

Bug ID: 19339
Summary: Several files still have old (and incorrect) FSF
mailing address
   Product: binutils
   Version: 2.27 (HEAD)
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P2
 Component: binutils
Assignee: unassigned at sourceware dot org
Reporter: tcallawa at redhat dot com
  Target Milestone: ---

These four files contain the old (and no longer correct) mailing address for
the FSF, in the license declaration header comments:

bfd/elf-nacl.h
bfd/elf-nacl.c
bfd/elf-vxworks.h
bfd/elf-vxworks.c

They should be fixed to either reflect the current address:

51 Franklin St, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA 02110-1301, USA.

Or, the last part of the header should be replaced with:

You should have received a copy of the GNU General Public License
along with this program. If not, see . */

(This is what the GPLv3 advises, presumably to resolve this minor issue from
occuring in the future.)

[Bug binutils/19343] New: make configure-host fails when $PWD contains space

2015-12-07 Thread jeffbaichina at gmail dot com

Bug ID: 19343
Summary: make configure-host fails when $PWD contains space
   Product: binutils
   Version: 2.25
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P2
 Component: binutils
Assignee: unassigned at sourceware dot org
Reporter: jeffbaichina at gmail dot com
  Target Milestone: ---

When building binutils 2.25.1, for example, when I would extract
binutils-2.25.1.tar.gz to "/test case/", and get into the source directory by
"cd /test\ case/binutils-2.25.1"...

./configure passes with no problem in this case. However make configure-host
will fail with errors like: "/bin/sh: /test: No such file or directory"

A full console log is available in the attachment.
