Works here.. If you wall your users as root or if the wall program is setuid/gid root, I can't see any reason it shouldn't work. I'm on debian 5.0 aka ‘lenny’ and the wall program is sgid root. Were you trying to tell your users they should go home & celebrate the New Year...?
