I use 'escape [[' which can obviously cause problems, however I have
the following binding

bindkey -k k5 escape ^Aa # change escape on F5
bindkey -k k6 escape [[ # change escape on F6

I can use it to temporarily change the escape key to something a bit
less problematic for pasting then change it back.
