hmm the only time i've ever seen open break is when the connection is over ssh--contrary to (perhaps naive) expectation, ssh'ing into a mac and running, say, "open ." doesn't open a new window in the remote box's local Finder, it just fails. (or at least it did under panther, which is the last time i checked.) i don't know a whole lot about how open works, except that it seems to be a carryover from NeXT, so presumably it's all about NS classes and cocoa frameworks. i guess the question is how open gets its connection to the local apps it sends messages to, and whether that could be disrupted by the sort of pty-fiddling screen does. anyway, just some more wild speculation on my part. enough rambling for now. good luck. _______________________________________________ screen-users mailing list screen-users@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/screen-users
