When attempting to upgrade from 4.9.1 to 5.0.1 I find that screen switched
from ending lines with ^M to an escape sequence. It's possible to see this by
running screen inside an xterm and using its "log to file" feature.
4.9.1:
ice 139 % cat -v Xterm.log.ice.alameda.xse.com.2025.05.14.18.47.30.4681
screen -dR test^M^M
^[[1mice 1 % date^M
Mon May 19 15:49:28 PDT 2025^M
^[[1mice 2 % ^[[mexit^M
exit^M
^[[?1l^[>^[[34;1H^M
[screen is terminating]^M
ice 137 % ice 140 %
5.0.1
ice 143 % cat -v Xterm.log.ice.alameda.xse.com.2025.05.19.15.35.16.5835
screen -dR test^M^M
^[[1mhot 1 % ^[[mexit^[[H
exit^[[2;1H
^[[?1l^[>^[[34;1H^M
[screen is terminating]^M
Is there a way to go back to the 4.X behavior?
