I checked with gdb, and it looks like you're right about it being a problem
with 8.5.10. Do you know if it's been fixed in 8.5.11?

I just ran a quick test and can reproduce this on 8.5.10.
You're probably using tcl/tk-8.5.10 , which has some nasty related bugs.
To verify which version, have a look in Scid's about window.
You'll probably want to install a different version of tcl and tk.
