In general, this easily done using the tree etc.
1) Open-as-tree the base that contains the game that you want to merge
into the current game.
2) At the critical position, hit the "best games with this position"
button (bottom-left in the tree window).
3) In the pop-up select the game that you want to merge, and click "merge".

If your game is in the current open base, just right click the game in
the game list and select "merge". Cannot be simpler.

Hitting CTRL/e to show it is there and is even more appropriate than a
button I think.

Besides, note that the usual !,?,= etc move annotations can be added
without opening the comment editor at all. Just make a move, type ! (for
example) and hit ENTER will do.

I tend to agree, although seeing the position that I am commenting is
somehow helpful to me. Main reason for the board seems to be to put the
arrows-and-all in the comment string. I use that bit less than rarely.

Note that stuff to immediately follow a move text is restricted to what
PGN allows there. This is not too much apart from the 255 $nnn NAG
tokens (google for "PGN NAG"), which are not all replaced by text by
scid. Example: Enter $7 in the annotation line. Scid will echo the text
"forced".
