CVS version, Tcl/Tk 8.5.7, on Linux.

This reproduces 100%.

* Open a game with variations
* Undock the PGN window
* From the PGN-Window menu enable Display/Short Header
* Then, in the PGN window, RMB-down and select "Strip: Variations"

Bingo.
