Does it only happen between "c" and "e"? Can you bring other case studies? Because on my system it correctly says "d takes e 5", just with the "s" in "takes" merging with the following "e" to give the impression of a "c". If you listen carefully to the single sounds, you'll find that the "c" is slightly more bass-laden than the "e" and this can help you telling the two letters apart. To further prove this, those of you more versed in programming than me can put a slight pause between the sounds (or just create new sounds altogether, as I did).
