Hi!

I'll retry FICS guest login, it did not work at all yestereve. Sorry.

"Bascially lack of documentation" is an issue, that requires a solution. And
this solution is required before the amount of "just lack of docs" reaches the
level of the Encyclopedia Britannica. Though I follow your additions for a time
now, I do not know all you did, nor what all the buttons mean or how things
work. I know some parts that I used myself and where I fiddled out how to use
it, but that are not all new things.

Still, I did not say, that you have to do it all alone. I'll write the one or
the other page, I'll do the english and german version of it, but I can not do
this for tomorrow either. I'll see what I can do the next days, I'll start with
the points mentioned below while I go over the ChangeLog. But this will take
some time and with all this silly NLS stuff it will take twice as much time.

On the other hand, I really think that you should write some docs for the stuff
you did, and write it to the _docs_. Also spend some line or the other there.
ChangeLog is not a documentation and sometimes it's even too cryptic for me.
You tend to talk about a "complex interface" and all is to difficult and so on
and if I mention that there should be some variable in a config file instead of
hard coded text in the source, so it can be changed (by the developers) later
on you're the first that complains about the lack of a GUI, but most of the
stuff you do, does not have any docs or only rudiments of them beyond a line in
the ChangeLog. We can not add one feature after the other and refer the users
to RTFS or reading cryptic ChangeLogs on how to use them. We should have in
mind that this or the other unix distribution might want to package the tool,
so it might well happen that a user tries it who has not followed the
discussions here for years and has a grown knowledge about what might be
possible.

Therefore, "lack of documentation and polishing" for me is an issue that
hinders the release of a new _GA_. (For my personal feeling releases of GA have
to short a cycle anyway.) It's ok for a beta, it might be ok for an RC it is
not ok for a new version. And it especially hinders the release of versions
that are ment to be the last in a series as you intend it to be for 3.6.26.
Thats my personal opinion. One can have another.

I see nothing blocking here except FICS login as guest : I just tried and it
works for me ...

The rest is basically lack of documentation polishing and any help is welcome
here. I have neither time nor will to do this myself.

Hi!

I plan to release Scid 3.6.26 in the next days. Are there
any comments / objections ? This should be the latest
version compatible with Tcl/Tk 8.4.

I think there're some open points that should be closed
before this release. At first sight I saw the following:

* "Hide next move" should be set to true if the tactical
exercise is started. Maybe it would be best to couple it
with the "show solution" toggle in tactics training
dialogue? (I think this was solved in some release already
but it seems to be there again.)

* Tactics training window lacks any help. (What does "Win
 won game" mean?"

* Tactics training "show solution": maybe -327.4 should be
displayed as M-1 etc. like in analysis window?
 (Consistency)

* Training Find best move needs some docs

* All menue entries of Play (except CC) lack the usual short
 status bar infos

* Opening Training lacks any documentation

* FICS: Login as guest seems broken. I get a flickering
error dialogue box that reads (after quite some time)
 "network error".

* Play on the internet lacks any documentation, in the login
dialogue as well as the console dialogue. Some basic words
 would be in order here.

* File Finder documentation needs update (context menue)

These are the obvious ones I am aware off without
crosschecking the ChangeLog yet. Pascal, you surely can add
some points just from memory what you changed in the user
relevant parts.

Probably it is a good idea to go through the docs and
bring them on level before 3.6.26 is released as it is meant
to be the last one for tcl/tk 8.4

I just added the missing german translations, the following
lang files have open "To be translated" tags:

- czech - hungary - italian - nederland
- norsk - polish - portbr - russian
- serbian - spanish - swedish

Unfortunately, I can not translate any of these. :(
