I'm using SCID 3.6.25. I can type UCI at the command prompt and then go depth
17 and it runs just fine. It crashes when run under SCID though.

32-bit Rybka 3 runs fine under SCID 3.6.25. A fix here gives the ability to run
a 64-bit Rybka-3 under SCID and boosts engine strength even further.

Thanks,

Roy

When I installed skid, I was hoping it included a database of games to learn
from.

I'm unable to find such a database (I'm using Ubuntu Linux), am I required to
install a database, or is it intended
to create a database of games that I import or play using skid, or (even), do
have to set a path to a database
that did get installed on my system?

Thanks,

Ross Ylitalo

Not really cause these files tend to be a bit big. But
you've a variety of sources out there on the net. Usually,
they offer the download of PGN files that you can import
into your own databases.

You might
want to check out e.g.

- TWIC
  http://www.chesscenter.com/twic/twic.html
Here you'll find recent events on a weekly updated basis

- Pitsburg Chess Archive
  http://www.pitt.edu/~schach/Archives/
Here you'll find a huge game collection (also in PGN)
sorted by various criteria like players or tournaments or...

To name just two major sources.

Some additional link collections that might be worth to
check out

- Chessopolis Archive Colletion
  http://www.chessopolis.com/archives.htm
Gives you a bunch of links ot other collections

- Chessville
  http://www.chessville.com
Gives you also a bunch of links to various collections and
   also some training material

- Lars Balzers Collection
  http://www.chessgameslinks.lars-balzer.info/
A link collection to quite an ammount of games and other
   ressources.

Additionally, some federations offer their games for
download depending on your interest you might find
something on their sites as well. (E.g. ICCF offers a game
base, IECG as well...)

All without even trying to be complete in any way.

I've tried to run Rybka3-64bit with microwine and SCID and it does not work.
SCID pops up a dialog that suggests there is a problem with the engine.
However, via the command line, I can run Rybka3-64-bit and microwine just fine.

Can someone suggest a workaround or clues as to where to look for the problem
with SCID?

Thanks,

Roy

Added/corrected this issue for german and english help
files.

BTW: Do we really want to support any language beyond
english? It seems that help is in a pretty inconsistent
state across the languages. Hoping that the last revision
tag for FAQ (ger) stating 2.6 was a typo...

Which version of Scid do you use ? You must use at least version 3.6.25 (there
is a but in Rybka that needs the use of a workaround). Of course I suppose you
checked UCI option.

When running Rybka on the command line, can you really start it thinking ?

Rybka works for me on a 32 bit PC under Linux. If it really works in CLI, it
must work under Scid.

Hi,

I plan to release Scid 3.6.26 in the next days. Are there any comments /
objections ? This should be the latest version compatible with Tcl/Tk 8.4.

Also note that I released Scid Pocket 1.3 a few days ago with updated / new
engines.

Pascal
