st gets very slow with lots of multibyte/Unicode characters on the screen, however. Up to "almost unusable" if scrolling happens, that is to say. On the other hand commits have been made this year to address this issue iirc. Also people used to use Python Python Python even though it had a tremendous startup time cost counted in processor cycles for no real feature gain .. i cannot find this, but found https://github.com/bdrung/startup-time.
