danshearer created an issue (rpm-software-management/rpm#4303)
rpm is now shipped as a [LumoSQL](https://codeberg.org/lumosql/lumosql) sample
application. So far as we have tested, rpm doesn't know it has a different
database underneath, and seems likely to offer improved performance and crash
behaviour, besides encryption and incremental online backups. Here is the
recipe to build rpm with the [LumoSQL
amalgamation](https://lumosql.org/src/lumosql/doc/trunk/examples/rpm/README.md).
It would be great to hear from rpm developers as to whether this seems useful,
and if there are any obvious problems. Sometime soon there will be another
LumoSQL release and it would be nice to have solid rpm support in there.
This issue is to call for feedback, bug reports and general opinions as to
whether this addresses problems the rpm project thinks are important. I know
there are weaknesses, for example, while we can run real distro application
databases off LMDB-backed RPM, ENABLE_TESTSUITE is a mysterious world we
haven't tried, and while mktree.rootfs looks like it works I haven't tried to
understand it.
Finally - rpm was in the original NLNet-funded plan six years ago, so this has
been a long time coming after much work by the LumoSQL contributors. It feels
rather good to be raising this issue :)
