I'm guessing those are his man files. That's what I thought as
soon as I saw the ".1.gz" on the end.
For example, on my system,
$ locate :.1.gz
/usr/share/man/man1/:.1.gz
$ ls -l /usr/share/man/man1/:.1.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 40 Mar 11 2004 /usr/share/man/man1/:.1.gz
