I refer to your request for Zenwalk distro support question/suggestion. John
suggests distros may
have missing certain etc files. But I can remember another reason why your
suggestion may not
always work.
When I was playing with Mepis...it reported under RKH that it was a Debian
distro. (Altho running
command ....uname -a...reported a Mepis kernel). RKH was using info supplied by
the distro and
because at that stage, Mepis was based on Debian its... /etc..file reported
that rather than
boasting(?) it was a Mepis distro.
