As I understand it, these commits are needed to avoid a regression
introduced earlier in the 5.76 cycle, so it's more about wanting to
avoid shipping regressions to users.

I don't mind, it's really not much work for me, but I never know if it's a
problem for packagers, and I also have some trouble being 100% sure that
there isn't going to be some sort of additional regression with such last-
minute changes, which haven't yet been tested for a few days?
