The first thing I would check would be the cable running to your hard
drive.  Make sure it's an 80-pin cable and that you're not using 40-pin
cables from your older system.  Some hard drives demand you use a new
cable and some you can get away with older cables.

It's actually not fine...eventually you'll have disk corruption if you
don't fix the problem.

Look at /etc/sysconfig/harddisks and also man hdparm.
