Thanx for your response Jeff. Ok. Lemme answer your questions (see below):

<< Ok, First of all - what version of redhat are you using? >>

           I'm using RehHat 8.0

<<Second what kind of modem do you have, Brand, Model name/number and
is it a winmodem (HSP modem) or a regular internal modem or an external
modem? >>

The modem is and internal modem (that came with the computer; a Compaq Presario).

<<Do you remember the text of the error message? You did write it down,
didn't you? Well almost nobody does but its very helpful to have the actual
text.>>

The exact error reads: "No modem was found on your system", even though the modem is there and I pluged the RJ-11 cord in.

<<Hmmm - how many "German" countries are there? The locale settings should be
something we can fix post-install.

Also - please wrap your text to 72 columns. You never know what kind of mail
client your mail will be read in. by choosing the most portable format you
maximize the chances that the right person will read it and give you exactly
the help you need.>>

Sorry, my mistake, the countries were European (not all German). The countries listed are Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Slovenia, and the United Kingdom.

Also, I'm using Yahoo! mail and I've looked at the screen where I'm composing the message, but I'm not seeing anywhere where I can set the text wrapping (it's probably a configuration setting somewhere underneath the front-end).

Thanx for your help.
