I added a second cpu kit (factory) to my Compaq 1850R which has been
running fine.

I want to upgrade to the smp kernel and get this error when I run
the smp rpm:

[root@ns1 src]# rpm -Uvh kernel-smp-2.4.18-19.8.0.i686.rpm
Preparing...
########################################### [100%]
   1:kernel-smp
########################################### [100%]
grubby: unable to open "/dev/md14": No such file or directory

Now, what's interesting is that I'm running lilo, not grub. Lilo is
looking at /dev/md14 for boot (when I installed 8.0, I wanted to
retain the System Partition, so I took the "install boot loader on
first block or whatever option" instead of writing the MBR.

What's interesting is that up2date kernel updates work great.

How do I install a stock smp kernel when it can't find the bootloader?

This is confusing, and any help appreciated.

Brad

ps - I stumped a Compaq Support Engineer with this already today
