We already have a DNS Server which is a windows based machine. While
installing Linux Advanced Server, I did specify the Win. DNS Server IP. Do I
still have to install a DNS server on my Linux System ?!!!

when you set up the DNS server. did you setup the reverse lookup of the
domain correctly ? So if you use nslookup and type the IP of machine1,
it should come back with the host name of machine1.
