Go to:  http://psyche.freshrpms.net

download 'apt'


install: 'rpm -ihv apt-.....'

then:

'apt-get update'

then 

'apt-get upgrade'


this will probably be easier, and less painful that the stock redhat
stuff.  Also, you may end up w/ a 'apt-get -f install'.  That will
attempt to satisfy any package with an unmet dependency.
