I noticed that this weekend, too. I'm not sure why that is, either, since users at the console will own cdrw devices normally. I didn't have time to look at it much, since the machine was a friend's. What happens if you just run /usr/bin/gtoaster-root from a command line? Does it detect the CDRW?
