Hello, I had to build a new kernel for one of my systems which is running redhat Linux 7.1. I used the latest kernel available, 2.4.20.
an odd thing happened which I've never seen before. This is a Compaq DL580 with 4 processors. the server itself can handle a max of 4 processors, but the kernel reports there are 8 processors installed and were initialized on bootup. This appears in both /proc/cpuinfo and dmesg output. Any ideas why? I assume its due to one of the options when building the kernel but I can't figure it out. and could this cause any problems with software running on this box? I've attached my .config file which was used to make the kernel in case it could help figure out why this is happening. I renamed it to config.txt for windows sake. Thanks, Dan <<config.txt>>
