I've just setup 8.0 switching from suse and I have a few questions if
anyone can help.
First, when I switch (ctrl+alt+F1) to the text screens the graphical
screen reverts back to the login (and sometimes actually kicks me out of
the text screen back into the login automatically) Is there any way to
stop this from happening? (in suse I was able to switch between the text
screens and the graphicals without needing to log back in again)
Second, I am trying to run a little mud on my system. I get it running
just fine and when I telnet localhost 2000 (just a random port, I've
tried others) the mud cannot perform the accept call successfully. I've
disabled all the firewalls I found (although the graphical security
manager wont actually save any options I try to change) and still
nothing. Can anyone give me an idea of what might be happening?
Third, (and more complex) I have a windows XP (yes, I hate it) pc and
the linux box on a hub connected to my cable modem. Is there anyone out
there that can point me in the right direction to figuring out how to
get the windows machine (which is the one I want to use the cable modem
with) to actually find the linux box over the local network? I would
like to be able to pull my work off the linux box and transport it with
the windows pc. I know samba and wu ftp are such programs, but I cannot
even seem to get the ip addresses/subnet masks sorted out as to which
should be what to even get them to notice one another. Is this sort of
thing possible?
Thank you for any help you can provide.
