I haven't heard a good reason to use UTF-8 yet, so I changed the LANG 
variable as well.

$ cat /etc/sysconfig/i18n
# LANG="en_US.UTF-8"
LANG="en_US"
SUPPORTED="en_US.UTF-8:en_US:en"
SYSFONT="latarcyrheb-sun16"
