The machine would have started in runlevel 3. It's like a console. To switch to X mode again from there you would have to type "init 5" as root.

Subject: Re: I'm also a new user!

Hi again!

I have chosen automatic...but I am curious about how it works if I hadn't done that?

I am a newbie but like to jump into things just like that, typically me...so what I want is to make this machine as a server...(I think apache is best). My computer is a PII 400, 6.4gb harddrive, 128mb ram. I don't have a router or hub for the moment and will use a crossover cable instead and two network adapters in this machine. I have never connected two computers in a network before either. I have Windows ME in the other machine (It is a similar computer as this). Maybe it isn't possible to have Windows ME on the other computer?

The first things I need to know is how to configure Redhat. I have chosen server during the installation and chosen to install all packets. Does anyone know what I do next. Is there any good manual for this purposes?

Thanks
Cassandra

As you are a new user, I suggest starting automaticly into X is the best thing to do..

Have fun...

Hi again!

I found that the videocard wasn't supported so I have changed the card to ATI 3d rage pro and it worked to configure...now  I have started and am at the desktop with the question if I want X to start automatic when I start the computer...what should I choose...?

I think you should reinstall, since you are new in the system.

Usually, the auto-detect of him it already configures everything properly.

If in the reinstall you will configure the video and to continue

receiving the error message, it is probable that you can

to have some problem of HARDWARE.

But that is little probable.

Hi again!

Try executing the test before. Like this, you can make several tests for your configuration.
