Very much in the process of learning linux, and reading all the

Konqueror crashed and caused signal 11 (SIGSEGV).
What am I doing wrong?

depending upon the distribution you are running have a look at totem and / or mplayer - available from freshrpms.net

If you are running 7.3 or 8 I would recommend installing apt from freshrpms and using that. It makes installing and uninstalling childs play.

The commands are as follows:

down load apt for your version.

install as root using rpm -i apt*

then as root run apt-get update; apt-get upgrade -f; apt-get install synaptic

synaptic is a gui for installing and removing programs.

if you then run synaptic as root you can choose mplayer and totem and lots of other lovely stuff.

If you are running Red Hat 8, you may have noticed that samba browsing of the network is broken in konqueror and nautilus.

There are new kde packages that work very well available for download.

If you put the following line in your /etc/apt/sources.list file and then run apt-get update ; synaptic you will see a load of updates available.

rpm ftp://orca.st.usm.edu/ pub/apt/redhat/8.0/en/i386 os updates freshrpms mattrpms

Kind regards
Xander
