The maximum amount of RAM that the 2.4 kernel can map is 64GB. It is important to recognize that when you add more memory, the kernel memory map grows larger so you will not actually get 64GB of system-usable RAM.
For example, my box with 8GB shows the following from a 'free' command: [root@testbox ~]# free total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 7730208 7003268 726940 0 51440 5836000 -/+ buffers/cache: 1115828 6614380 Swap: 8192960 36596 8156364 About 600MB is used to map out what's in memory. This confused me initially, so I just wanted to give you a heads up.
