When you end up in vi, press "i" to enter INSERT mode (displayed in the
lower left corner). When done with inserting, press ESC.

Now press ":" to go into command mode. You'll notice the colon at the
bottom line. enter "wq" [Enter] to (w)rite and (q)uit. To quit without
saving enter "q!" which means (q)uit and don't ask me(!) to save.
