I found documentation for the installation instructions on HP's web site and if you haven't done so already, you may want to pull the tape drive and go through the jumper settings. This document seems to do a good job of describing your options. Look just below the Heading "Figure 1: SCSI ID settings on internal drives" and underneath the figure, it describes the jumpers: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=lpg50541&locale=en_US&taskId=8418&taskName=setup%2C+install+%26+configure&prodSeriesId=42869&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesName=hp+surestore+dlt+80+drives&docId=40726 The above is all one line, so if it gets wrapped by your mail reader, you will have to put it back together. By the way, the documentation for internal or external is the same so don't get hung up on that issue. Pay particular attention to the one that says "Disable parity." You haven't mentioned what SCSI adapter you have, but my experience has been that you can go into the adapter BIOS during booting of the machine and set its configuration. Do that and look for the parity setting of the adapter.
