Greetings! I actually just had this problem. I was running RH 7.3 for a while, and used whatever the latest version was at the time (3.0 IIRC). But when I upgraded to RH 8, all hell broke loose. Basically, what was described to me is that some RedHat kernel patch adersely affects the power management routines in VMWare, giving you the rather odd error when trying to suspend or shutdown a VM. Basically what you need to do is either wait for VMWare to fix it, or download a non-patched kernel, compile, and use that. I haven't strayed from a seemingly in all other respects a better kernel yet, just to make ONE app happy -- but may if VMWare doesnt fix it soon.
