I use fetchmail to retrieve mail from multiple accounts to my linux box. On the same box, I have IMP (part of the HORDE project) installed for reading mail via a web browser.
IMP acts as an IMAP client to access your mail. IMP can also act as an IMAP client to remote mail servers.
