Check to make sure that eth0 is not enabled at boot and eth1 is.
(Actually, at lest through 7.3, wireless interfaces would come up whether
enabled on boot or not.)  You can select this option in
redhat-config-network (AKA neat) or by looking at
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts-eth* for the ONBOOT parameter.
