I agree, the practice of sending html mail to these lists is unacceptable 
and indefensible. But that isn't going to make it stop happening.

I just send all HTML mail to the bit bucket. It doesn't do anything to 
reduce the bandwidth usage, but it does help keep my blood pressure down.
