I have used a Jaz drive with no problem. I usually take a very different approach on my server at home, bases on only backing up home directories, web contents, and text files under 2MB (which backs up all configuration files. I also rpm -q to a file and rpm -qa to a file. I fit the web content on one CD and the rest on a second. This is not for everyone though. I am almost positive that any USB hard drive will be hot-pluggable with Linux. If the hard drive is left plugged in, the backup drive is not as safe. The most economical way to do this is to buy an external IDE-to-USB2.0 case (I bought one from ADS) and put in your own monster hard drive. PS- Yes, I am David Kramer.
