Hi Greg, A couple of features I have noticed:-
* Detachable Menus in KDE * Much more customisable taskbar, you are not just limited to icons, but whole controls (I think the official name is applets). Also the basic features are much more detailed, such as the way you can have the clock as analog or digital (with a flashing divider as well). The key point about the Linux desktops though, is the fact that you have the choice of using what you want (KDE, GNOME, WindowMaker, IceWM, etc) you are not just limited to what M$ want you to have. If you are any good at programming you could even write you own to fit you needs. However I will put one downer on KDE though. The multiple desktop feature is not unique to it, I have a NVidia GeForce graphics card running on one of my Windows boxes that gives you this same option when the driver is installed. I chose not to install it though (Windows is buggy enough as it is) so I cannot say how reliable it is. Hope this helps and good luck with the Uni course. I hope that the one I am starting next year takes account of Linux rather than just Windows systems.
