I have read all the replies to my post and I appreciate greatly all the feedback...
I am playing around with Samba now trying to at least get to browse network folders and print. The only thing I'd like to add is that DHCP did give me an IP, but not the correct DNS server info. That is why I had to go to static IP and other info. I think this is a problem on our network and not a flaw on my Linux system. I will post an update on my progress, but again, thanks for the help!
