I have had the same issue here until I
manually set the duplex.  Autodetect
does not seem to do well on a compaq dl360.
In the modules.conf file I put.

alias eth0 e100
alias eth1 e100
options e100 e100_speed_duplex=4,4

for this nic duplex=4 is a force 100mb full duplex.

We have found that inconsistencies with NIC duplex and
speed settings can impact network performance by 90%
or more.  Make sure that your NICs, including the
ports on switches and routers, are all set the
same...100 FULL Duplex or have everything set to
Autodetect.
