If you're running procfs, you can "cat /proc/scsi/scsi" to see a list of 
scsi devices.

You don't have to reboot if the partition table is not part of an active 
drive. In fact, under those circumstances, you don't even need to be in 
single-user mode. If this scsi drive is currently unused, just run 
fdisk/cfdisk/whatever, partition, format, and mount.
